SOPRANO

“stratospheric soprano of dazzling brilliance

American soprano Kira Kaplan is quickly making her mark on international stages after her tenure as a 2023/2024 Young Artist with the National Opera Studio in London and continued partnership with Scottish Opera as an Emerging Artist. She was recently hailed as “virtuosic” by The Telegraph for her portrayal of Miss Wordsworth in Scottish Opera’s new production of Albert Herring by director Daisy Evans.

In the 2025/2026 season, Kira will debut several roles with Scottish Opera, including Musetta in La Boheme (cv and access performances), and most notably Susanna in their production of The Marriage of Figaro under the direction of Sir Thomas Allan. 2025 season engagements for Kira included a world premiere debut with Opera Holland Park and Scottish Opera in their joint performances of Trial by Jury and A Matter of Misconduct, where she starred as the leads of the Plaintiff and Sylvia Lawless in the new production. She returned to southeast England weeks later to make her role debut as Donna Anna in Waterperry Opera Festival’s new production of Don Giovanni. In 2024 she made further debuts with Lammermuir Festival and Scottish Opera as Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring.

  • "The work opened with Kira Kaplan addressing us directly, with loving attention to words combined with gorgeous melisma. All the cast were terrific and each got a moment to shine. It was however, Kira Kaplan who stole the show with her seductive vocal lines and fierce tongue."

  • "It must be stated that Kira Kaplan's performance as Sylvia Lawless was vocally exquisite, often reaching notes stratospherically high with ease and confidence, raising my eyebrows in disbelief more than once"

    HR Laverick, The Student

  • "The part of the schoolteacher Miss Wordsworth is taken by the American soprano Kira Kaplan and she proved an excellent comic actor. Kaplan's singing and characterization was masterful and among the highlights of the evening"

  • "It fell to operatic new face Kaplan to charm the packed Usher Hall with a sweet and soulful 'O mio babbino caro', plucked from the comedic Gianni Schicchi. She certainly has a spry, nimble voice, which bodes well for the future"
